Odoo 20 was unveiled on 24 September 2026 at Odoo Experience in Brussels. For Indian companies it is the most compliance-ready release so far, and its new Light User licence changes the cost of putting a whole workforce on one ERP.

This guide is for owners, CFOs and operations heads who are budgeting a new Odoo rollout or moving from Tally, Zoho or spreadsheets. It covers what Odoo 20 costs in rupees, how long implementation takes, what changed for GST and payroll, and how to choose an Odoo implementation partner in India. It is written by the implementation team at Odiware, which has delivered Odoo implementation projects from Bengaluru and Bhubaneswar since 2018.

Key takeaways

  • Start new projects on Odoo 20. It has the longest support window and the deepest India localisation.
  • Your budget has two parts: Odoo's licence fee (paid to Odoo) and the implementation fee (paid to your partner). Ask for them separately.
  • The Light User licence (₹195) can cut licence costs sharply for shop-floor, warehouse and self-service staff.
  • Custom modules, data migration and integrations drive your quote far more than user count does.
  • Choose a partner that has filed live GST e-invoices and Indian payroll in Odoo, not just demoed them.

Why implement Odoo 20 instead of Odoo 19?

If you are starting fresh, implement Odoo 20. Odoo supports the three most recent major versions, so a new project on Odoo 20 stays supported the longest and postpones your first paid upgrade. It also includes India features that Odoo 19 lacks, such as GST composition returns, the bill of entry flow and Schedule III reporting.

There is one caveat. Some third-party apps from the Odoo App Store take weeks or months to be ported to a new version. If your rollout depends on a specific connector (a marketplace, a payment gateway or a biometric device, for example), confirm that an Odoo 20 version exists before you sign. A good partner checks this during fit-gap analysis.

For the full list of what changed, see our Odoo 20 features guide. For version lifecycles, see Odoo supported versions.

What does Odoo 20 add for Indian businesses?

Odoo 20 builds on features India users already had, including GST e-invoicing (IRN and QR code), e-way bills, GSTIN validation and the GSTR-1, GSTR-2B and GSTR-3B reports. It adds the following:

Area New in Odoo 20 Who benefits most
GST composition scheme Support for composition taxpayers, with CMP-08 and GSTR-4 returns Small traders and manufacturers on the composition scheme
GST QRMP Quarterly GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B, monthly PMT-06 payments and the optional Invoice Furnishing Facility (IFF) Businesses with turnover up to ₹5 crore that file quarterly
Bill of entry Records import customs duty and carries it into inventory cost through landed costs Importers and distributors
Credit notes Credit notes for price adjustments Distributors and B2B sellers with rate revisions
Schedule III Financial statements in the Schedule III, Division I format of the Companies Act Private and public limited companies
TDS Choose TDS & Payment, TDS Only or Payment Only for each transaction Finance teams handling vendor TDS
Payroll Monthly TDS challans, quarterly Form 138, employee TDS declarations, gratuity report, EPF summary, sandwich-leave rules, full and final settlement payslips, HDFC eNET salary file HR and payroll teams

Beyond the India localisation, these global changes matter to Indian SMEs:

  • AI agents can create records (even from an uploaded file), run scheduled automations and take voice requests. All AI features now use prepaid IAP credits, so budget for them.
  • Offline mode on mobile lets field and warehouse staff create and edit records without a network connection.
  • Manufacturing gains split manufacturing orders, continuous production, subcontracting valuation and better work-centre views. See our manufacturing ERP solutions.
  • Point of Sale adds an UrbanPiper integration for food-aggregator orders, self-ordering and static QR code payments, which suits Indian restaurant and retail chains.
  • Purchase adds a vendor quality rate and side-by-side comparison of alternative quotations.

How much does Odoo 20 cost in India?

The total cost has two separate parts. Licences are a recurring fee you pay to Odoo. Implementation is a mostly one-time fee you pay to your partner. Mixing the two is the most common reason quotes look impossible to compare.

Odoo 20 licence prices in India (INR)

Plan Per user / month (annual billing, current offer) Regular yearly rate Monthly billing Best for
Community ₹0 – – Teams that can self-host and maintain code
Standard ₹580 ₹725 ₹760 Odoo Online, standard apps, no custom code
Custom ₹1,080 ₹1,350 ₹1,350 Studio, custom modules, multi-company, Odoo.sh or on-premise
Light User (new) ₹195 – – Employees who only need self-service or operator screens

Prices exclude 18% GST. Figures are from Odoo's India launch announcement and the oec.sh pricing tracker (October 2026). Odoo changes pricing and promotions periodically, so confirm current rates on odoo.com or with your partner before budgeting.

What the Light User covers: Odoo positions it for employees who need essential HR self-service (time off, payslips, attendance, expenses) and the apps they use day to day. Partner reports also list Point of Sale, Manufacturing Shop Floor and Barcode operators. Confirm eligibility for each role before you plan around it.

Costs people forget: hosting on Odoo.sh or your own cloud server (Custom plan), IAP credits for AI, SMS and e-invoicing services, and premium third-party apps.

Odoo implementation cost in India by business size

Business profile Typical scope Published market range Typical timeline
Small (up to ~10 users) Sales, invoicing, inventory, GST setup, master data import ₹90,000 – ₹2.75 lakh 2–4 weeks
Mid-sized (10–50 users) Adds manufacturing or payroll, Tally migration, 1–3 integrations, light customisation ₹3 – 12 lakh 1–3 months
Enterprise / multi-entity (50+ users) Multi-company, multiple GSTINs, custom modules, several integrations ₹15 – 40 lakh+ 3–6+ months

These are published 2026 ranges from Indian Odoo partner cost guides, shown for orientation only. They are not Odiware quotes. Odiware's fixed-scope setup packages start at US$999 for a one-day installation and configuration. See the implementation packages.

What drives your quote up or down

  1. Custom modules. This is the biggest variable. Every custom workflow must be built, tested and upgraded later. Use Odoo customisation only where standard Odoo truly doesn't fit.
  2. Data migration. Typically ₹1–3 lakh, depending on how clean your Tally or spreadsheet data is.
  3. Integrations. Roughly ₹50,000–₹2 lakh each for marketplaces, payment gateways, logistics or biometric devices.
  4. Payroll and statutory setup. PF, ESI, professional tax, TDS and gratuity rules need careful configuration and a test run.
  5. Number of companies, branches and GSTINs. Each adds configuration and testing.
  6. Training depth. Role-based training costs more upfront and saves money after go-live.
  7. Post-go-live support. Plan for it from day one. Odiware's Odoo support plans start at US$319 a year.

Worked example: a 40-employee manufacturer

A manufacturer has 15 office users (sales, purchase, accounts, planning) who need full access, plus 25 shop-floor and self-service staff. It chooses the Custom plan because it needs one custom costing report.

Line item Calculation Annual cost
15 full users, Custom plan 15 × ₹1,080 × 12 ₹1,94,400
25 Light Users 25 × ₹195 × 12 ₹58,500
Licence subtotal   ₹2,52,900
GST at 18%   ₹45,522
Licences incl. GST   ₹2,98,422 / year

If all 40 employees needed full Custom licences, the 25 extra full seats would cost ₹3,24,000 a year instead of ₹58,500. The Light User saves this business about ₹2.65 lakh a year before GST.

Implementation for this profile usually falls in the mid-sized range (₹3–12 lakh). It depends mostly on the custom report, the Tally migration and any machine or biometric integrations. Budget for hosting separately if the Custom plan runs on Odoo.sh or your own server.

How long does an Odoo 20 implementation take in India?

A small business on standard apps can go live in 2–4 weeks. A mid-sized company with manufacturing, payroll or integrations usually needs 1–3 months. Multi-company enterprises take 3–6 months or more. Most delays come from late data clean-up and unclear decisions, not from the software.

Every Odiware rollout follows the same six phases:

Phase What happens What you sign off
1. Requirement workshop Sessions with the people who actually run each process Process list and priorities
2. Fit-gap analysis Map each process to standard Odoo 20; flag real gaps Written scope and plan
3. Configuration Chart of accounts, GST taxes and GSTINs, warehouses, routes, payroll rules Configured test database
4. Data migration Masters, opening balances, open invoices and stock, with reconciliation Matching trial balance and stock report
5. Testing and training User acceptance testing, a test e-invoice, a test payroll run, role-based training UAT sign-off
6. Go-live and hypercare Cut-over at a month or GST-period start, then close support Go-live checklist

For reference, Odiware took a 200-person construction company in Odisha live in three months. That project included custom labour, meal and attendance modules, biometric sync and Indian payroll. Read the construction ERP case study.

Odoo Community or Enterprise: which suits Indian SMEs?

Most Indian SMEs that need GST returns, full accounting or payroll should choose Enterprise (Standard or Custom). Community has no licence fee, but full accounting, GST return reports and Odoo Payroll are Enterprise features. Rebuilding them costs more than the licence saves.

Need Community Enterprise
GST taxes on invoices ✓ ✓
Full accounting and GST return reports ✗ ✓
Indian payroll (PF, ESI, PT, TDS) ✗ ✓
Odoo Studio (no-code changes) ✗ ✓ (Custom plan)
Official upgrades and support ✗ ✓
Licence cost ₹0 From ₹580 / user / month

Community can suit businesses with an in-house technical team and simple compliance needs. Read the full Odoo Community vs Enterprise comparison.

Moving from Tally, Zoho or Excel to Odoo 20

Most Indian Odoo projects start with a move away from Tally. A clean migration brings across:

  • Masters: Tally ledgers become the chart of accounts and contacts. Stock items become products with HSN codes and units of measure.
  • Opening balances as of your cut-over date, plus open receivables and payables at invoice level.
  • Stock on hand by warehouse, with valuation that matches your books.

Our advice is to migrate opening balances and open items, not years of history. Keep Tally read-only for past records. Cut over at the start of a month or GST period so returns stay clean. Reconcile the trial balance before go-live. For details, see our Tally to Odoo migration guide.

Already on an older Odoo version? You can move directly to Odoo 20 without paying for every version in between. See how to upgrade old Odoo to Odoo 20 and our Odoo migration services.

How to choose an Odoo implementation partner in India

Use this 10-point checklist before you sign with any Odoo implementation company in India, including us:

  1. Check the partner's listing. Look up the partner's tier and number of certified consultants in Odoo's official partner directory.
  2. Ask for live GST proof. Ask to see a real e-invoice (IRN) and e-way bill generated from an Odoo database they manage.
  3. Test their payroll knowledge. Ask how they configure PF, ESI, professional tax for your state, and TDS.
  4. Look for industry experience. Ask for a case study or reference in your sector.
  5. Get a fixed scope. Insist on a written scope with deliverables and sign-offs, not open-ended hourly billing.
  6. Reconcile migrated data. The partner should prove that the trial balance and stock match before go-live.
  7. Own your code. Custom modules should be yours, documented and written to upgrade to Odoo 21.
  8. Expect role-based training. Accounts, stores and sales need different sessions.
  9. Get support in IST. Agree on a post-go-live support plan with response times in Indian working hours.
  10. Keep licence fees transparent. Odoo licence fees and service fees should be shown separately on the quote.

Odoo 20 implementation in India FAQ

How much does Odoo 20 implementation cost in India?

Published 2026 ranges are about ₹90,000–₹2.75 lakh for small businesses, ₹3–12 lakh for mid-sized companies and ₹15 lakh or more for enterprises. Odoo licences are extra: ₹580 (Standard), ₹1,080 (Custom) or ₹195 (Light User) per user per month, plus GST. Custom modules, data migration and integrations drive most of the difference.

How long does it take to implement Odoo 20?

Small businesses on standard apps typically go live in 2–4 weeks. Mid-sized companies with manufacturing, payroll or integrations need 1–3 months. Multi-company enterprises take 3–6 months or more. Clean data and quick decisions are the biggest factors in staying on schedule.

Is Odoo 20 GST compliant?

Yes. Odoo supports GST taxes, e-invoicing with IRN and QR code, e-way bills, GSTIN validation and the GSTR-1, GSTR-2B and GSTR-3B reports. Odoo 20 adds composition-scheme support (CMP-08 and GSTR-4) and QRMP workflows. Your partner still needs to configure and test these for your GSTINs.

What is the Odoo 20 Light User and what does it cost in India?

The Light User is a lower-cost licence introduced with Odoo 20. It costs ₹195 per user per month in India and is meant for employees who only need self-service or operator screens, such as time off, payslips and attendance. Confirm eligibility for each role with your partner.

Can we migrate from Tally to Odoo 20?

Yes. Ledgers, parties, stock items, opening balances, open invoices and stock on hand can be migrated to Odoo 20. Most businesses migrate opening balances and open items, keep Tally read-only for history, and cut over at the start of a month or GST period.

Should we choose Odoo 20 or Odoo 19 for a new implementation?

Choose Odoo 20 for a new implementation. It has the longest support window and adds India features that Odoo 19 lacks. Before you commit, check that any third-party apps you rely on are available for Odoo 20.

Does Odoo 20 support Indian payroll?

Yes, on Enterprise. Odoo Payroll handles PF, ESI, professional tax and TDS. Odoo 20 adds TDS challans, quarterly Form 138, employee TDS declarations, gratuity and EPF reports, sandwich-leave rules, full and final settlement payslips and an HDFC eNET salary file.

Do we need an Odoo partner to implement Odoo 20?

Not always, but most Indian businesses benefit from one. A partner handles fit-gap analysis, GST and payroll configuration, Tally migration with reconciliation, and training. Those are the steps where self-implementations most often fail.
